ABX participates in the Eighth Annual Charlotte Biotechnology Conference
October 8th, 2009
ABX Engineering, Inc. is a 24-year-old ISO 9001-2008 approved contract electronics manufacturer which targets prototype, medium to large sized projects, now providing coast to coast coverage with offices in San Francisco, San Diego and Charlotte, NC.
ABX participated in the Eighth Annual Charlotte Biotechnology Conference held at UNC Charlotte, sponsored by the Charlotte Research Institute, which supports new research ventures and spin-off companies. The Center focus includes Optoelectronics, Nanoscale Science, Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering Systems and Energy Production.
Donna Mowry, ABX Sales/Program Manager, Charlotte, was one of over 400 attendees present to hear the keynote speaker, Dr. Anthony Atala, a world class scientist, entrepreneur and educator. Dr. Atala came from Harvard University about five years ago to go to Wake Forest University in North Carolina, where he is the Director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine. His company, Tengion, Inc., focuses on the exciting and emerging field of growing and expanding new human tissues and organs from a patient’s own cells. Asked about the place of biotech in the medical field, dr. Atala said, “Biotechnology is going to continue to have an increasing role in the development of medical therapies, because you have many different fields coming together in a multi-disciplinary approach that are trying to tackle problems together.
There were fascinating presentations from researchers and their new developments. Commercializable products coming from hospitals such as a mobile hospital housed in a tractor trailer that can be sent to disaster areas. New developments in cancer show great promise that “a cancer vaccine can work” according to Dr. Pinku Mukherjee. Lt. Governor Walter Dalton closed the event and the reception was held at the new Bioinformatics Building.
ABX has been manufacturing for the medical and medical research industries for over 15 years, working with many of the premier companies providing equipment for areas such as gene cell research and other life science technologies.
ABX is a leading CM in producing higher technology products, from circuit boards to complete turn key systems, manufacturing for industries including medical, commercial, industrial, research and other customers.
