ABX adds Sony SI-V200 Visual Inspection Equipment (AOI)
May 17th, 2010
ABX Engineering, Inc. is a 24-year-old ISO 9001-2008 approved contract electronics manufacturer which targets prototype, medium to large sized projects, now providing coast to coast coverage with offices in San Francisco, San Diego and Charlotte, NC. ABX has added Sony SI-V200 Visual Inspection Equipment to better serve our customers.
Visual Inspection Equipment more commonly referred to as AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) is used to improve the overall accuracy of the inspection process and increase production throughput.
Automatic optical inspection is used to inspect printed circuit boards during the manufacturing process. The main application of an AOI system is to detect defects on the boards. The benefits of AOI include improvement in the quality of the product in the manufacturing process and increased yield of defect free parts coming out of the assembly line which can result in reducing production costs. When comparing the speed, efficiency, and flexibility of other test and inspection methods, AOI provides significant advantages in inspection accuracy and production throughput.
ABX SMT Production Engineer Bryce Clarke stated, "As board densities increase and component sizes decrease, the need for a fast, accurate, and more efficient inspection process is critical. The selection of the Sony SI-V200 Systems was based on providing the best inspection results, supporting a variety of board designs and layouts, with a product that in the view of the ABX engineering team offered the best combination of flexibility, accuracy, programming ease and production throughput.
AOI can be used to inspect for defects including, missing parts, misaligned parts, bent leads, excessive solder, insufficient solder open solder, solder bridges, upside-down parts, wrong parts, wrong polarity, and damaged components.
The SI-V200 will work on components as small as 01005. The SI-V200 is a welcome addition to our quality test arsenal at ABX, along with our Xray capability, in-circuit test capabilities and other test/quality programs, our goal is to provide our customers with a 100% yield - zero defect on the products, PCBA's we build for them."
ABX is a leading CM in producing higher technology products, from circuit boards to complete turn key systems manufacturing for industries including medical, broadcast, commercial, industrial, research and other customers.
