ABX Engineering's Commitment to a Green Supply Chain

February 14th, 2014

ABX Engineering, Inc. is a 28-year-old ISO 9001-2008 and ISO 13485-2003 approved contract electronics manufacturer which targets NPI, medium to large sized projects, providing coast to coast coverage with offices in San Francisco and San Diego. ABX is committed to a Green Supply Chain.

Our continuing goal at ABX Engineering, Inc. is to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes and wherever possible, our customers environmental impact by continuing to follow “green” manufacturing principles wherever possible.

David Coombes, Director of Operations and Quality stated, "We have operated lead free - RoHS wave soldering operations for over 10 years and have recently commissioned a SAC 305 RoHS wave. Our De-Ionized (DI) Water cleaning system which eliminates the need for discharging waste into the sewer systems, or having to further process the water before discharging. Our Saponifier Inline Cleaning Chemistry produces fully Biodegradable waste meeting all environmental regulations in a green cleaning process.

Our new 45,000 square foot facility utilizes fully programmable LED lighting systems in the manufacturing and front office areas with sensors that control the LED Lights based on ambient light which reduces our overall power consumption by over 50%. When we completed the renovation of our new building we added significant roofing insulation, capsheet, reflective sheeting on the roof, beyond the norm to further reduce our heating and cooling energy usage.

We installed Staticworx ESD Green Carpet Tile on the factory floor which is produced with recycled materials and earned the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label Plus certification. Its also nice to be able to say our lights, carpets and many of the other green enhancements to the new factory were Made In America.

One of the options that ABX Engineering offers to our customers is to use customized packaging that can be used multiple times – this is really effective for volume manufacturing with a weekly call off schedule, as when units are delivered, the previously used packaging can be returned to ABX. This reduces an enormous amount of material wastage and labor due to eliminating the need to dispose of esd bags, foam and other packaging materials.

ABX has recently commissioned a conformal coating room which utilizes a positive air flow room with multiple hepa filters to ensure clean air is present during the coating operations which ensures that no fumes are outgassed to the manufacturing areas – permits are filed with the Bay Area Quality Management District."

ABX is a leading CM in producing higher technology products, from PCBA to complete turn key systems, manufacturing for industries including medical, aviation, broadcast, commercial, industrial, research and other customers.
